To Catch a Predator

I watched this show for the first time last night. I had to pick my jaw off of the floor after seeing countless men being lured by whom they thought was a 13 year old girl on the internet. If you haven't seen the show, I've included a clip below. The basic premise is that cops go on the internet looking for would be child predators, setting up a meeting time and place. Once they arrive, they may see the girl they think they were talking to, or they may just see Chris Hansen, the host. He will ask them what they are doing, why they thought it was a good idea, and even read some of the lewd acts they intended on committing. They usually apologize and ask if they can leave. Chris says yes. As soon as they leave, there is a SWAT team there to meet them, where they are then interrogated and jailed. One guy yesterday even mentioned the show while chatting with the "13 year-old". I am glad stings like this exist. It's quite a shame, though, that it has to.

You Dirty Rat!

I don't think it's a secret that NYC has rats...what I found shocking is that they are so rampant in the city's restaurants. Watch the disturbing video here.

That's really disturbing. Especially seeing the rats in packs running around.

Enlightening, though.

Obama in '08?

I don't blog much on politics, but it seems Mr. Obama has some good things to say. I read his first book Dreams from My Father a little over a year ago, and came away very impressed with his story. After seeing the same faces in politics for so long (Sen. McCain is thinking of running and he is 70!), I welcome the new approaches his will bring to the arena. Although he is inexperienced, he and his campaign people have managed to turn this liability into a positive. Very swift move. The Democratic Primaries are gonna be verrrry interesting...

I would like to learn more about Obama. People around my neck of the woods don't talk about him much though . . .

Personally, I am tired of the status quo and long for a fresh candidate.

I live on the border of Iowa and Illinois, so I hear a lot about Mr. Obama, and in fact have had the opportunity to see him. I am incredibly impressed with him and so far he is my candidate for '08.

Brrrr....

Get ready for some crazy driving. It was 78 degrees (26 c) today, with possible tornadoes and thunderstorms tonight. Tomorrow it will be 36 (2 c) with sleet and snow. We Texans don't take kindly to the phenomenon know as "black ice". Much more dangerous than snow, ice sneakily forms a thin coating on the asphalt, causing many slips and slides. It is pretty dangerous if not careful. Every time this happens, we hear on the news how to drive, what to avoid, and tireless dribble about the bridges and overpasses being the first to freeze. I really hope school isn't cancelled, because I don't want to make it up.

Wow. It's going to be colder there than it is here. You'll have snow before we do. Global warming for sure. =)
