I've been tutoring this Korean woman for about 5 months now. Her two young sons are being tutored by two other teachers. They come to school for about an hour everyday but Friday, and the mom and I converse in English, then do a little reading. She told me that she has been learning English since she was in middle school, but speaking was nowhere near a priority, hence her non-recognition of some words that I say. If I say them, she has no idea what I am talking about, but if I write it, she can immediately understand. It's kinda weird, she said that her and her friends just made up pronunciations to the words so that they could memorize them, because the teacher never spoke them. I found this link online, and I was interested to see if I was teaching her correct English, and it looks like 65% of my English is general, and not colloquial. I guess that's cool.
